The "Hundreds"
"Hundreds" - (New Oxford English Dictionary):
One of the most famous is the "Chiltern Hundreds" whose Stewardship is still {in theory at least} one of making a profit and so cannot be held by an elected Member of the House of Commons in the British Parliament. Applying for this Stewardship, or having it thrust upon him, is thus one of the few ways an MP can vacate his seat as there is no legal way of resigning it!
